Hobby Horse Project

The Hobby Horse Project consists of bi-monthly family outings organised by a Steering Group, made up of members of the Kirkcaldy and Dunfermline groups. The outings are mainly of topical interest, with a small number being activity based. The project has a Co-ordinator who produces a booking form for members of these two groups, wishing to attend the outing, to complete - with closing dates being strictly adhered to. The child who has a High-functioning Autistic Disorder is sent an invitation to the event a couple of days prior to the outing itself, with instructions to talk to their parent/s to request that the family (including siblings) attend. The outing is free of charge to these members, however, they are encouraged to participate in fundraising for the project, as entry fees and transport can work out to be quite pricey. Comments made by families include:

  1. Attending these outings has given us, as a family, the confidence to organise our own. We've really benefitted from this."
  2. A child attending stated that "This is the first time that I've felt I 'belong'.. ...and that I'm not a 'freak'

The aim of the outings it to be a positive experience for all attending. Children meet familiar faces, and make friends. Parents meet other families, with some commenting that they no longer feel isolated and a failure

In order to benefit from the Hobby Horse Project all attending must be members of PHAD (Fife). We look forward to meeting you.
